Tasty Honey Pork Fillet with Bao Buns
Sometime we are truly lazy and don’t know what to have for lunch during weekday. Sometime a cook like me might also run out of energy to magic up a 3 dish meal for lunch. That’s why my fridge always have something simple such as bun/bao or anything can be cook within 15 – 30 minutes without a lot of work. This is one of my favourite meal, simplest and very minimum preparation time.
RECIPES BELOW:
INGREDIENTS
3 – 4 pork fillets
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 – 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon corn starch
1 cup of white wine
Optional side dish: Pickle vegetable to enhance the taste
½ carrot julienne
½ cucumber julienne
1 bird eye chilli
3 – 5 Kasturi lime
Instructions:
To ease our busy schedule, marinated the pork fillet early morning or a night before is advisable. In order for faster and even cooking time, flatten the fillet with blunt side of the chopper. This will also breaking off the internal muscle so that it will not curve up during cooking.
Meanwhile for side dish, you can prepare the pickle cucumber and carrot in the morning too. Or you can replace them with any type of pickle vegetable for this dish. The reason is because the protein will be purely sweet, grilled and slight saltiness from the oyster sauce. In order to balance the taste and elevate our appetite, addition of fresh pickle and vegetable will help to make taste awesome.
For the sauce, I use white wine to glaze the pan and extract all the grill and caramelized honey from the pan. Let the white win boil awhile to let the alcohol evaporated before add in the marinating sauce used for marinating the fillet. You can replace white wine with:
1. Beer
2. Coke
3. Lemon juice (if use lemon juice, adjust the sauce with a bit of sugar to balance the sour taste. REMEMBER, your pickle carrot and cucumber are sour taste too.)
