Baby Of The Month – January 2010's Winners

January 2010

Zoey’s Mum, Heather, told us…

Well, you’ve heard of the cookie monster? we started calling Zoey the Milk Monster on about day 2 of her life. She’s always been a terrific eater and with two front teeth at just past four months… she was literally “chomping” at the bit (or shall I say “nip”?) to try solid foods.

Her favorites are the foods that come to her on a spoon. Other than looking at me like I’d just told her Santa Claus was a fake when I gave her mashed banana for the first time, she has liked just about everything she has tried. Sweet Potatoes bring out the extended “mmmmmmmm” as does butternut squash mixed with cereal.

Thanks for the wonderful recipes and ideas!

And thank you, too, to everyone else who entered last month!

Here are some more of our favourite pictures sent in during December, along with a few words from Mum…

Aiza, 7.5 months – from Windsor, UK I love pictures!!!

My baby seems to be very interested in other people eating… but is not a very big eater herself.

As expected, she loves her fruits.. especially pear and banana. Veggies are much harder – carrots and potatoes are a current favourite. I’ll definitely try your recipes to enhance her flavours and textures!

Cameron, 9 months – from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada Cameron has been on solids for about 4 months now … he loves his solids.

We have been experimenting with textures and trying lots of new recipes. he loves blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs. Sweet potato is a hit as well!!

Cam is also starting to self feed, which is very messy but fun!!

Elia Isabella Granados, 5 months – from Gulf Shores, Al She loves to eat, she loves sweet potatoes and carrots and most of all the vegetables I make for her.

I gave her applesauce and banana smashed and she did not like it… I guess she’d rather eat vegetables!

Emily, 9 months – from Mooroopna, Victoria, Australia Happy Emily enjoying her lunch

Emily may not have any teeth yet but that sure doesn’t stop her from eating a huge range of foods!!

Emily’s favourite food is mango, and she loves feeding herself, so finger foods are great.

Hannah, 8 months – from Adelaide, South Australia, Australia First time with rusks!

Hannah loves her solids. She especially enjoys playing with them! sometimes it’s very difficult to pry the bowl from her hands!

She especially likes brocoli and peas.

Isabelle, 5 months – from Rotterdam, the Netherlands

Isabelle was exclusively a breast fed baby, up until I introduced mashed mushy bananas right when she turned 4 months. I gradually introduced other stuff in the menu to her through her daily lunch. She particularly loves the pear & apple puree combination with crumbly biscuits ( a baby biscuit they have here in Holland that crumbles & mixes well w/ anything liquid) though she wouldn’t be a big fan of apple puree on its own, ohhh, the face on her when she tastes it :)

I also have the potato & carrot puree which she enjoys munching on & the cauliflower & green beans puree which she really likes. I strap her on her bouncy chair while being fed & she looks forward to our “chats” while she’s eating.

Isabelle seems to be very happy with her “new food”, although she is still fairly dependent on the breast feeding. my intention to feed her with solids was just for her to get the feel of the texture, taste & colour of the solid food, not mainly to shift to solids soon.

I intend to breast feed her beyond her 6 months & hopefully our transition will go well.

Maddox, 7 months – from MA, USA Hanging out after a tubby!

Our little man LOVES his food…pears and bananas seem to be his favorite but he doesn’t turn away from anything.

He gets very excited when we put him in his high chair, hands and feet moving constantly, it’s quite humorous and adorable to watch.

Most recently he started holding a spoon during his meals, attempting to feed himself. although a messy experience it’s so fun watching him learn and discover new feats!

Mehret, 7 months – from Ethiopia Mehret started trying foods at 6 months. for the first time, she had cereal. She took to it very well. She also loved cereal and sweet potato.

This month I introduced her to mixed grain foods in liquid form.Mixed grains are bean, soya bean, oats, teff, nuts… She likes it very much.

Ralph, 8 months – from Houston, Tx, USA With Ralph, I didn’t have much trouble introducing solids. he loves flavoured yogurt the most. Banana, avocado, pear and everything with yoghurt.

When he started to get bored of his cereal variety I realised that adding real small pieces of fruits in his cereal would make him finish the meal.

He is not a big fan of vegetables but may take soup and lentils with rice. I am going to try some of the suggested receipes here.

Tyler David, 7 months – from Rhode Island, USA In the pumpkin,…

This kid Loves everything you put at him! Perfect lil angel.. Couldn’t have asked for a better baby.

The only thing he doesnt like is snow…lol

Where would you like to go now? Your baby and vitamin D Eating out with baby A guide to easy homemade yogurt Should I peel fruits and vegetables for my baby?
